Postgraduate Students’ Perceived and Actual Performance in Critical Reading Skills

Abstract: The democratisation and commodification of education has witnessed an increase in postgraduate as it is one the main sources contributing to advancement knowledge, technology, innovation. However, despite significant rise numbers, returns at both global national levels have been low due high attrition completion rates among students. One numerous factors cited students’ limited competencies language research skills. In terms language, students are expected possess good working knowledge English be able read academic literature write their thesis with acceptable standard English. Therefore, aim this paper was assess perceived actual performance critical reading This study involved a total 50 from private university Malaysia. Data for were collected using questionnaire test based on Malaysian University Test (MUET) Reading Examination Paper. findings revealed that there difference between two performances. Students held higher perception ability when compared These results indicate need innovative approaches develop skills so they can successfully complete studies within given duration graduate time.
